3. The Blues’ back three was a bit shaky

Something that came as a surprise to many was Chelsea’s formation, which was different from the 4-2-3-1. Today, Pochettino decided to play with three center-backs in this case they were Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill, and Disasi. Silva who has been with Chelsea for three years, held his own and was the anchor of the back three. Despite being 38 years old, the Brazilian is still a force to be reckoned with.

Colwill and Disasi were each making their first appearance for Chelsea and both were up and down. The French international did score the only CFC goal of the game with a tap-in that he barely got his foot on. However, he also was in bad positioning earlier in the game and as a result, Diaz scored the first goal of the match giving Liverpool a 1-0 lead. Fresh off a six-year contract extension and wearing the number 26, the same number worn by Chelsea legend center-back John Terry.

Colwill had a tough time containing Salah, which is never an easy job to do. In the first half, Colwill got caught being out of place and the Egyptian winger ran right past him for the second goal, but it was called offside and Colwill was able to catch a sigh of relief. On the ball, the former Brighton & Hove Albion man looked composed and delivered many crisp passes to teammates, and Disasi improved after the early mistake.
