West Ham 3-1 Chelsea: 3 talking points from Blues’ loss in London derby
By Abdul Abdullahi
The 28-year-old emerged as the most threatening player on the field, utilizing his speed and strength to exert pressure on the West Ham defense and make strides towards scoring opportunities. He was also responsible for winning a penalty for Chelsea, though Enzo Fernandez couldn’t convert it.
Despite not finding the net himself, Pochettino believes that if Sterling maintains his current level of performance, CFC will fare well.
Carney Chukwuemeka adds to The Blues’ injury woes
Carney Chukwuemeka picked up what looks to be a serious injury to his knee. The midfielder had to be substituted late in the first half following a collision with Emerson Palmieri.
Despite his young age, Chukwuemeka maintained his position in Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield after an impressive display on the opening weekend against Liverpool. He formed a midfield trio alongside Enzo Fernandes and Conor Gallagher.
Chukwuemeka showcased his manager’s confidence with a skillful finish to equalize the score in the first half, but his triumph was short-lived. While engaging in a 50/50 challenge against Emerson, a former Aston Villa player, Chukwuemeka appeared to sustain a knock to his knee. He however stayed on for a little while but eventually required treatment from the club’s physios, leading to his substitution by Mykhailo Mudryk.
As the match concluded, he was spotted struggling to walk and even needed crutches. Our hope is for a swift recovery and his absence not to be prolonged.
