Mauricio Pochettino reassures Chelsea fans about Nicolas Jackson. And would January be an ideal time for the Blues to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney?

Jackson is probably the real deal, in my opinion. That view may not apply to being a long-term big six centreforward, but I believe the player can make it as a starting Premier League asset. People shouldn’t put too much stock into the miss against Nottingham Forest. Yeah, it was bad. Yet he was fatigued and there was no other focal point to come on and spearhead the attack. In those situations, mishaps and errors often strike in sport, especially at elite level. What pundits as well as Blues supporters should be focused on is the true potential the 22-year-old has shown. His eventual standing could well aid CFC to elevate back to where they belong. Boss of the west London outfit, Mauricio Pochettino, spoke of the Gambia-born, Senegal National Team representative after the disappointing home defeat to an underestimated Nottingham Forest.

"‘He (Jackson) needs to adapt to the Premier League. He is doing a fantastic job but afterwards, to score is not easy.‘Sometimes he is a little bit rushed in his decisions but this is only to say he needs to settle himself, be more calm, relaxed. For sure, he is going to score goals.‘In the future we will talk in a different way because he is going to score this type of chance.’"

Ivan Toney may be the way to go for Chelsea

The jury is clearly out on Jackson, in spite of aforementioned reasons to be optimistic about the forward. Armando Broja only technically proved himself a top tier goalscorer whilst at a lesser EPL club, and he’s currently unfit. Meanwhile Christopher Nkunku is really a specialist support or second striker and is injured at the moment, too. So there is a place for another high calibre scorer who can compete and change games at English top-flight level. Enter Ivan Toney.

Chelsea are linked with interest in the highly rated Englishman. He has showcased the ability to do the business at a particularly good rate of return even while with an intermediate EPL outfit, impressively. So why shouldn’t the Blues go for Toney in January? You tell me.
