The real reason why Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen rejected Burnley

The Pride of London discuss the apparent real reason why versatile left-sided player and potential star Ian Maatsen rejected a transfer from Chelsea to Burnley.

Maatsen caught my eye during preseason; the Blue stood out and produced the goods in a few friendlies in the offseason. I even contemplated signing him as a differential for my Fantasy Premier League team. Although, Pochettino went in a different direction despite some fans’ expectations. Maybe the reason why the Dutchman isn’t heavily involved with the west Londoners’ has now been revealed.

It was previously reported that Maatsen declined the opportunity to play at Burnley this season. Alternatively, the 21-year-old is said to be keen on playing for CFC’s east London rivals West Ham United.

Just imagine if Chelsea recruitment chiefs and hierarchy had the rather obvious foresight to sign James Maddison this summer, or even this time last year. The playmaker was often electrifying and almost constantly productive at Leicester City. He is absolutely instrumental in Tottenham’s resurgence under Ange Postecoglou as well. The Blues are crying out for a player or players like Maddison.

However, it appears that the capital side certainly did monitor the impressive midfielder. In fact, a reporter suggests that Chels‘ considered attempting to lure him to Stamford Bridge in recent times. Alas, the England international was said to favour a switch to Spurs instead of CFC.

That claim, along with his age, are the likely reasons why Chelsea didn’t pursue Maddison more intensely as he ended up in north London. The Blues are pursuing the best young talent around; at 26, the Three Lions man is no longer up-and-coming but established. Mauricio Pochettino’s starting lineup would be much improved with further experienced and quality footballers such as the Lilywhites No.10.
