Whenever Palmer has come on as a substitute, he’s hardly set a foot wrong, bringing a spark of creativity to the Blues’ attack but never really having sufficient time to stamp his imprint on the game. Playing him in the No.10 role behind a Nicolas Jackson or Armando Broja will not only bring more chance creation but allow Jackson in particular to not focus on always dropping deeper to link play and put more emphasis on playing in front of goal and gaining confidence putting the ball in the back of the net.

2. Ian Maatsen

Dutch left back Ian Maatsen was one of a handful of players that heavily impressed during Chelsea’s preseason tour. Maatsen’s versatility to be used in various attacking positions was the highlight of his abilities. However, since the beginning of the season, Pochettino is yet to give the 21-year-old a start in the Premier League.  Instead opting to play centre back Levi Colwill unnaturally at left back to replace an out of form Ben Chilwell. In a team that is struggling to finish their chances and form threatening patterns in the final third, a player of Maatsen’s quality going forward could be used.

Last season with Burnley, Maatsen played a crucial part in the Clarets winning the Championship and gaining promotion, providing four goals and six assists in the league as a defender. With Chilwell not at his best, Maatsen should be the first in line for an opportunity to prove himself at his natural position and has the quality to bring an extra threat to Chelsea’s attacking output.
