Stadium setback, staff gone, player wants out, defeat – another Chelsea week
It has been another rough week at Chelsea after losing to Aston Villa. There has been a stadium expansion setback, staff leaving and a player now wants out.
There is more bad Blues news today, I’m afraid. First of all, proposed work to Stamford Bridge has hit a snag. Legal action might be taken by military veterans living near to the ground in order to prevent renovations.
Secondly, two members of staff have left the club. Bruno Saltor supposedly departed ‘secretly‘. While Blues legend Claude Makelele has left his backroom role. He mentored young starlets on Fulham Road but has now gone, too. Meanwhile a myriad of CFC setbacks continue. Reports state that Marc Cucurella is angling for a January transfer. The Spaniard was upset not to leave over the summer; Real Madrid are monitoring his situation.
Ben Chilwell’s Chelsea omission explained by head coach Mauricio Pochettino
If you had asked me at the start of the season, I would have said that Ben Chilwell would eventually be one of the main Blues starters under ‘Poch’ alongside stars such as Enzo Fernandez and Thiago Silva. But the new manager has had other ideas. During his Tuesday press conference ahead of facing Brighton & Hove Albion in the League Cup, Pochettino outlined why the former Leicester City left-back is generally not a part of his starting XI.
Mykhailo Mudryk’s return to the side appears to be the prime excuse used by the argentine to justify Chilwell’s exclusion. The gaffer seems to say that because of deploying such an attacking winger in Mudryk, there is no room for an attack-minded fullback. OK, but, aren’t all wingmen forward-thinking by definition? Pochettino added that playing Levi Colwill out of position on the left-side of the defence sured up the back line, which is more plausible.
