Chelsea Football Club will look for redemption after going winless in the Premier League last month. In September, the Blues played three games in which one was a draw, whereas two ended in losses. These results have now placed Chelsea in 15th position in the league, a position Mauricio Pochettino and his team wouldn’t like.

Hence, on October 3rd, 2023, when Chelsea FC travels to face Fulham FC at Craven Cottage, Pochettino and fans will expect the Blues to win all three points. If this is to happen, CFC will have to play their best players whereas the one who has not been performing to his best must be dropped for the game.

In this article, we will look at the one Chelsea FC player Mauricio Pochettino must drop for the game against Fulham FC:

Chelsea must drop Thiago Silva for the game against Fulham

When Chelsea played their last game against Brighton in the EFL Cup, the Blues managed to win the game 1-0. One of the major reasons behind the west London club’s victory against Brighton was that several players who weren’t used much this season got a chance to play. And to their credit, none of them were disappointed.

One of the key changes in the game between Chelsea and Brighton was Levi Colwill replacing Thiago Silva in the center of the park. This change allowed Chelsea to field Ben Chilwell as a left-back. While many wondered how this tactic would play out, Colwill put on a defensive masterclass and impressed in the EFL Cup game.

This is one reason why Chelsea must look to star Colwill in the middle of the park along with Axel Disasi. Since the beginning of the season, Pochettino has been fielding Disasi and Silva in the center of the park. However, that has not really worked since the latter has not been performing to the best of his abilities.

While Disasi has lacked in distribution and initiating attacks, he has covered up for it by displaying strong defense. Silva, on the other hand, is not having the best season. Even in the last league game against Aston Villa which ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Blues, it was an error from the Brazilian that led to Villa scoring.

Hence, it is time for Chels‘ to allow Thiago Silva to spend some time on the bench and rejuvenate. At 39, the Brazilian has already done plenty for the club, and until he finds his form, he could be a great mentor to the young Colwill. It will be interesting to see if Mauricio Pochettino makes this change and starts Colwill in the center of defense against Fulham.
