Burnley 1-4 Chelsea: 3 Blues talking points
By Abdul Abdullahi
Chelsea staged a remarkable comeback to convincingly defeat Burnley 4-1, securing three well-deserved points at Turf Moor on Saturday. Mauricio Pochettino’s team had a sluggish start, but they accomplished what had eluded them in their last 19 attempts: winning a Premier League match after conceding the first goal, and they did so with ease in the end.
In the 15th minute, 18-year-old Wilson Odobert made history as Burnley’s youngest-ever Premier League scorer, capitalizing on the hosts’ first significant attack. Despite Chelsea’s dominance in possession, they couldn’t feel too hard done by, as they relied on a stroke of luck to redirect Raheem Sterling’s cross into James Trafford’s net, courtesy of the unsuspecting Ameen Al-Dakhil in the 42nd minute.
Sterling emerged as the pivotal figure again after the break. Just five minutes into the second half, he was hacked down in the box, earning a penalty that his teammate Cole Palmer expertly converted for his first goal in Chelsea’s royal blue. The former Manchester City player then broke away to fire a shot past the goalkeeper in the 65th minute, and it was his dynamic run that initiated a splendid play, culminating in a sharp finish by Nicolas Jackson ten minutes later.
Though it took some time for Chelsea to hit their stride, they now have additional crucial points on the board ahead of a significant clash with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal after the international break.
