Three Blues talking points from Chelsea’s dominate win over Burnley
Chelsea’s first comeback win since last October
Despite Chelsea’s strong form leading up to this match, they faced an early setback, conceding a goal within the first 15 minutes. In their previous 19 Premier League games, the Blues had struggled to secure a win when falling behind, with three draws and 16 losses. However, in the game against Burnley, they demonstrated remarkable resilience and managed to turn the tide, ultimately clinching a stylish victory.
The last time the Blues came from behind was against Crystal Palace last season on the first of October 2022 under Graham Potter, which coincidentally marked his inaugural Premier League match as CFC manager. To add further context, the Blues have experienced three coaching changes since that 2-1 comeback win.
Raheem Sterling directness prevails
Sterling made a statement to England manager Gareth Southgate by driving Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday. Despite being excluded from the England squad for the upcoming matches against Australia and Italy, Sterling showcased his prowess by contributing to three of Chelsea’s goals at Turf Moor. The 28-year-old was thrown into the starting XI after Mykhailo Mudryk seemingly picking up a minor injury which preventing from starting. Burnley just could not contain him and was always a threat. This marked Mauricio Pochettino’s team’s third consecutive win in all competitions.
In the 42nd minute, Chelsea leveled the score when Ameen Al-Dakhil inadvertently redirected Sterling’s cross into the net, resulting in an own goal. The Blues took the lead five minutes into the second half after Sterling was fouled by Vitinho, and Cole Palmer converted the penalty.
The Former Man City man was not done yet and concluded his phenomenal performance in the 65th minute with a precise finish from Conor Gallagher’s pass, while Nicolas Jackson secured Chelsea’s fourth goal just ten minutes later.
