Burnley 1-4 Chelsea player ratings: perfect Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling: 10/10
Sterling played a key role in all four goals Chelsea scored. It was his cross that was turned in for the own goal. He won the penalty that Palmer put away, scored the third goal, and drove the ball from the halfway line to set up the chance that Nicolas Jackson converted for the fourth goal. it was a 10/10 performance for the former Manchester City attacker.
Armando Broja: 5/10
Broja was inconsequential, not least because he wasn’t occupying the right spaces. He completed 10/10 passes and contested some duels, but other than that, nothing.
Nicolas Jackson (45′): 8/10
Jackson played very well when he came on. He led the line well, acted as an outlet to carry the ball out, and scored a fantastic goal.
Mykhailo Mudryk (83′): N/A
The Ukraine international came on with seven minutes to go, and his only action was to take down a long ball aimed at him – which he did very well – and drive toward goal. He passed to Jackson in the box, who was unable to sort his feet out in time to take a shot.
Ian Maatsen (86′): N/A
Maatsen had even less of an impact than Mudryk, understandably, as he came on with four minutes of regulation time to go.
Mauricio Pochettino: 8/10
Pochettino did well, especially in terms of team selection. He had a dilemma, needing to drop two of Palmer, Mudryk, Sterling, Jackson, and Broja. He opted to drop Jackson and Mudryk, and Sterling ended up having a fantastic performance. His substitutions weren’t great apart from bringing on Jackson, who, admittedly, made a huge difference. There isn’t much to be taken from this result and performance, but it’s a much-needed win, and better still by a 3-goal margin. It is something to take into the tough run of fixtures that are approaching.
