Ranking Chelsea’s 5 best summer signings so far
By Malcom David
1. Cole Palmer
Chelsea have not lost a single game that Cole Palmer has started. That tells you all you need to know about the impact that he has had on the Blues so far. Mauricio Pochettino described the ex Man City talent as “the link” in this CFC team and there’s no better description. Palmer’s creativity and passing ability from the attacking midfield role may finally be the missing link to help Chelsea consistently find the net.
That’s why he tops this list as Chelsea’s best summer signing because he’s almost immediately solved one of Chelsea’s biggest problems in the final third. In his first three starts for the Blues, the 21-year-old has already three goal contributions and has brought the team much needed fluidity in attack. In addition to his three goal contributions, Chelsea have also scored seven goals in their last three games with Palmer.
It’ll be interesting to see Pochettino will implement a returning Christopher Nkunku from injury come new year with Cole Palmer’s emergence. Pair that with the growing confidence of Mykhailo Mudryk, Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling, a fully fit Chelsea frontline could be one of the most threatening in the Premier league.
