It’s almost like attending the biggest party at a university, expect, you’re the only representative from your class. The others were left in their respective dorm rooms, looking out the window filled with jealousy. That’s the situation Emma Hayes’ Chelsea Women are in. Both are inside complaining about the way things are run, but as Hayes said, “we have to respect the system”.

The Blues are at the party for a reason. The club earned it. Maybe one day it’ll chance, but for now, this is how it is. The west Londoners’ are the only piece of the Women’s Super League that the continent of Europe invited to this year’s festivities. With Arsenal and Manchester United falling short of group stage qualification, the west London outfit will be England’s only hope of having a competition winner for the first time since 2007.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage is less than a month away, and just days ago, Chelsea learned its path leading into the quarterfinals. Coming off an impressive 2022/2023 season in Europe where the club ousted the defending champions, and held its own against Barcelona, the Blues are prepped to take the top prize. Even though Hayes’ team is not playing as fluid football as it would like, the difference between the beginning and the end of the group stages should be astronomical.

That triumphant feeling has been something the men’s team has felt more than once. Considering the consistent domestic successes, it is about time a women’s European cup finds a home in SW6.

Are you ready? I know we are. Let’s get it! Here’s all the information you’ll need to prepare yourself for the group stages.
