It is a homecoming for winger Johanna Rytting Kaneryd. After breaking onto the scene with the
Gothenburg side, the Swede found her way to west London. Now, she returns to face her former club for the first time. The Wasps are coming off back-to-back second place finishes in the Swedish top-flight after winning the league in 2020.

The club formally known as Göteborg FC finished seven points off the top and just two points above third place Linköpings FC last season. In the past, the Swedish outfit has made it to the quarterfinals of the this competition in consecutive years. Since, success at the European level has been few and far between. Two goals within a five minute span in the second leg of the second round of qualification pushed the yellow and black back into the limelight.

Swedish international Jennifer Falk, the challenger to Zecira Musovic for the top spot at the 2023 Women’s World Cup takes up the space between the posts. Up top, 16-year-old Felicia Schroder has had her fingertips all over Hacken’s attacks. No. 23 in yellow and black has netted a goal in each leg against FC Twente.

Not only is it her finishing that stands out, Schroder’s intelligence and speed at such a young age jump off the page. The 16-year-old may be in Sweden for now, but there looks to be a future for her in a much larger club. As of now, Schroder often sits as the No. 9, playing in front of a midfield five which includes former Everton player Anna Anvegård. In total, four players from BK Hacken represented Sweden at the World Cup.

Though Maika Hamano will not be able to feature in the group stage, the former Hammarby loanee has recent experience against this side. Of course, the coaching staff will construct an extensive gameplan, but it has to be beneficial to have someone in the building who encountered a club the west London outfit rarely compete against on a regular basis.
