Tottenham 1-4 Chelsea: Blues player ratings
By Abdul Abdullahi
Cole Palmer: 8/10
Very bright from start to finish, even when the team was poor. His composure under the intense Spurs pressure in the initial ten minutes was remarkably impressive, and grabbing himself another goal, albeit from the spot.
Raheem Sterling: 8/10
Sterling was by far the Blues’ most threatening attacker, mainly because of his speed and that Spurs were playing an extremely high-line. His pace, dribbling, and directness kept causing Tottenham problems and just didn’t know how to deal with him. The senior veteran was also unlucky to have his goal chopped off due to a handball. It was however a fair decision. There’s still moments when the England international should’ve made a better decision which at times become frustrating.
Nicolas Jackson: 8.5/10
After countless missed opportunities, Jackson managed to put three in the back of the net that did indeed stand, completing his hat-trick. We’ve witnessed the same issues we’ve seen with prior Blues strikers – missing chances after chances. It did, however, take Spurs going down to nine men. He certainly has to be better against Manchester City coming up next but he will be taking the match ball home.
Chelsea Substitutes:
Marc Cucurella (46’): 7.5/10
Cucurella came on after the interval for Colwill in his preferred left-back spot, and many were surprised about his name appearing on the bench considering the form he’s in. The Spaniard had a perfect record with 100% success in his tackles (3/3), take-ons (1/1), and aerial duels (1/1) for CFC against Tottenham. An impressive performance and should be a nailed on starter.
Mykhailo Mudryk (58’): 5/10
Mudryk came on for Fernandez to cause more havoc for Spurs’ backline with his pace. The Ukrainian didn’t look that great, and just returning from injury may have played a role. He seemed a bit rusty.
Malo Gusto (77’): 6/10
Came on for the captain, Reece James, for that much needed fresh legs to end the match. The most memorable moment in his cameo is giving away a needless free-kick that nearly gifted Spurs a way back into the contest. Other than that, looked fairly alright but with that being the most memorable it can’t justify that high of a score.
Lesley Ugochukwu (90’+1): N/A
The French youngster came on as a fresh set of legs to finish off the derby. He picked up a yellow card, but it can’t weigh too heavily in justifying a rating.
