Right back: Reece James (England)

Club captain – Reece James was in the news after turning down the opportunity of an International recall to continue to return to full fitness at Chelsea which could risk his place in England’s Euro 2024. The Gaffer addressed the situation saying,

"“It’s never the decision of the player in these cases; it’s about to assess”. “The medical, sport science, coaching staff take the decisions”. “He’s desperate to go the national team. He wanted to go. But we take the best decision for him”."

Centre back: Thiago Silva (Brazil)

Time and time again the Brazilian veteran keeps proving his worth to the entire fanbase. He was scrutinized heavily at the start of the season but has now left no doubts as he is clearly the best defender on the team. And his experience when it comes to organizing the defence is exactly what a young side like Chelsea needs.

Centre back: Levi Colwill (England)

Although the Chels’ faithful have been urging Pochettino to start Benoit Badiashile alongside Thiago Silva. The Gaffer would keep match sharpness in mind when facing a team like MCFC and would rather consider Levi Colwill and Axel Disasi. We haven’t watched Colwill enough at centre back as he has been played out of position for the majority of the season. But he should be getting the nod over the Frenchman as he is relatively more composed and less error prone.

Left back: Marc Cucurella (Spain)

When playing against Pep Guardiola’s team, you do not want to take unnecessary risks. And playing with a traditional left back should be the preferred alternative. Also Cucurella’s numbers make the decision simpler and there should be no doubts about this position at least for the upcoming fixture.
