Chelsea 4-4 Man City player ratings: Gallagher tops

Chelsea played a truly thrilling game against the league leaders and held them to a draw, having to come back three different times. Mauricio Pochettino’s men were committed to the cause, pressing Manchester City high up the pitch, putting them under pressure, and disrupting their buildup. Erling Haaland once again proved to be a thorn in the side of another big team, bagging two goals and an assist, but it was Cole Palmer who converted a 98th-minute penalty to seal a 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge. It was a wholesome performance, but how did the players do individually?

Robert Sanchez, Goalkeeper: 7.5

Sanchez was good. He was called upon at different points in the game to bail out the Blues and he did. The Chelsea defense was shaky in this game, and the Spaniard found himself facing 10 shots, he had to save six of them to prevent it from being truly embarrassing. You could also make the argument that he shouldn’t have conceded Man City’s fourth goal, as he seemed to have Rodri’s shot covered but it took a heavy deflection off Thiago Silva.

Reece James, Right back: 7.5

The Chels‘ captain played very well against City and most importantly, Jeremy Doku. Doku tried to take the Blues No. 24 on many times but he refused to be beaten. He won 5/7 tackles on the day and the Belgian winger had to be subbed off as he seemed not to be affecting the game the way his manager expected he would.

Axel Disasi, Centerback: 6

Disasi did not play well, he won 1/3 duels he contested, and he was dispossessed at a crucial point in the game. He has definitely had better games for Chelsea.

Thiago Silva, Centerback: 6

Silva’s rating stays at six because he scored. His sheer lack of defensive actions in the game speaks to how little he was involved in defending for CFC. He was more harmful to the Blues. He made just three defensive actions in a game that his team conceded 10 shots on target. He won zero tackles and was in a poor position for Manuel Akanji’s goal, meaning that he was unable to head a cross clear before it found the MCFC defender for a free header. He topped off a poor performance by steering a shot past his own keeper, a shot that said keeper had covered.

Marc Cucurella, Left back: 6

Cucurella was poor as well, as almost all the defenders that started the game for Chelsea were.
