3 Takeaways from Chelsea Women’s final match before UEFA Women’s Champions League action

3. Aggie Beever-Jones is the super sub Chelsea will need throughout the campaign

In front of the same fans that rooted for her last season, the 20-year-old attacker displayed to them what exactly they’re missing. Aggie Beever-Jones came onto the pitch in the 83′ for Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, and within a blink of an eye, the English forward made her presence known.

Seconds before sending a shot into the top left corner, Beever-Jones nearly beat Courtney Brosnan at her far post. The warning sign was sent. The Toffees didn’t listen. Once she made an adjustment, the former Bristol City loanee converted a chance for the third WSL contest running. 50 minutes played, three goals. Talk about a super sub. It takes someone special to come on after sitting for an extended period of time. Your mind has to completely refocus. No. 33, even at a young age seems to have it down.

It’s difficult to say how many contests she’ll start, but if she continues to produce like this just minutes from crossing the lines, the opportunities are going to be there. The youngster possesses pace, a rocket of a shot, and clinical finishing to top it all off. The future is always impossible to predict, especially at this football club, but Beever-Jones could be a critical piece for the foreseeable future.

2. Eve Perisset is quietly making her claim as the No. 1 right back ahead of Ashley Lawrence

Prior to the 2023/2024 WSL kick-off, there seemed to be a clear first choice at right back. Despite Eve Perisset’s stellar first season in west London, Canada’s Ashley Lawrence was not brought in to sit the bench. Now, the Canadian has no choice.

Most of what the French defender does isn’t the most glorious. No. 15 consistently makes the right plays. Everything that a manager wants, she does. Perisset knows when to play simple, and when to play it through the lines or into the box. Her 96 passes completed gave her 47 more than any other EFC player on the afternoon. 137 touches says it all. Her influence was undeniable. Though she does not have the goals or assists to back up her last three starts, her excellence deserves to be recognized.
