A major update on Conor Gallagher’s apparently imminent Chelsea contract is definitely not what fans expected to hear. Also in the ‘news’ is a story claiming that in demand Brentford striker Ivan Toney doesn’t know what to do amid interest from the Bees’ west London rivals, among other clubs.
There is said to be a chance that Chelsea bosses could cancel Gallagher’s proposed new CFC deal. Supposedly, the owners are waiting to decide on the midfielder until they have ‘seen how Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku perform’. This information is sure to shock the Blues fan base after some thrilling Gallagher displays.
There is certainly a midfield/front line puzzle for Mauricio Pochettino to solve when he has Gallagher, Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and the imminent Nkunku to fit into the starting team. But it is, as I’ve previously outlined, one of those good problems.
What will Ivan Toney decide as Chelsea sweat?
Talking of forwards, the highly rated Toney has a conundrum, a predicament on his hands. But, again, the Englishman is in an absolutely wonderful position, deliberations or not. Two of the biggest football clubs in the Premier League and the world are after the deftly talented yet terrifically strong centreforward.
It must be hard to choose between Chelsea and Arsenal, to be fair. The Gunners are equally brilliantly technical and are, let’s be honest, currently challenging for English top-flight titles, successfully or otherwise. Meanwhile the Blues are in a period of sluggish evolution, but have the tools and capability to challenge for trophies themselves in upcoming seasons. That opinion only applies if Mauricio Pochettino remains on Fulham Road!
Toney is reportedly open to staying at Brentford for the remainder of the current campaign. However, this report suggests that Chelsea and Arsenal would like to sign him during the January transfer window.
