Chelsea went from leaders to jokes to underdogs and are now a force again
‘Chelsea’ – one of the most successful clubs of the last decade were not taken seriously anymore. Fans all over the world trolled the club heavily for their performances even after being prodigal in their expenditures.
But Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali remained focused and continued working relentlessly. The club appointed Mauricio Pochettino who is renowned for his sides’ high-energy and eye-catching style. He has built a reputation for helping young players realise their full potential within a strong squad ethos and hence looked like the perfect fit for Chelsea. The recruitment team worked with the Argentine and added further quality to this talented squad.
Preseason was pretty much perfect. Chelsea won the Premier League Summer Series and were expected to get back to where they belong this season. But there’s always a cloud over our heads, CFC lost key players through injuries early on. Christopher Nkunku who was expected to lead the attack suffered a serious knee injury in the last game of preseason. And was soon followed by the Captain and Vice captain. Very talented but fragile full backs continued to struggle with injuries this season as well. Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Romeo Lavia, Carney Chukwuemeka and a few more names were ruled out too.
The injuries had it’s effect on Pochettino’s plans as the club was found in the bottom half of the points table yet again. Although the side put up multiple high quality displays, the end product was lacking and the inconsistency was evident.
But lately, the squad has looked different. Every player seems to be stepping up individually which has clearly helped the team. Pochettino’s plans look much more concrete and his boys look hungry.
Fans all over the world expected the west Londoners to get tormented by November’s fixture list but Chelsea are unbeaten so far, trashing league leaders Tottenham Hotspur followed by an unlucky 4-4 draw against the Citizens. Not trying to hype the results but the performances have been simply exceptional.
It would be unfair to single out a few players as we’ve witnessed very convincing displays from nearly the entire playing XI. And the fans have more to excited about as the International break has to come an end and the squad travelling to St. James Park might include Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia too.
If the boys manage to build on the recent results, securing UCL qualification will soon look like a very realistic objective. Up the Chels!
Where do you see us finishing this season?
