Benoit Badiashile: 7/10

Badiashile was busy against Newcastle, largely because many of the players around him were not pulling their weight. The Frenchman wasn’t impeccable, far from it, but he was much better than everyone around him, which is interesting considering that the Newcastle game was his second game in six months. According to Sofascore, no one on the pitch made more clearances (3) or blocks (1) than Badiashile. He also won 3/3 tackles he attempted. No one in the back line won more tackles than the former AS Monaco defender.

Marc Cucurella: 4/10

Cucurella was underwhelming. He made a few headed clearances, but he didn’t really help proceedings much.

Lesley Ugochukwu: 5/10

Ugochukwu’s distribution was poor, but he made up for it with his defensive contributions. He completed 5/6 tackles and won 6/8 ground duels. He was in a double pivot, against Newcastle’s midfield three, which may explain the imbalance in the midfield, as Chelsea was overrun against Howe’s men.

Enzo Fernandez: 5/10

Fernandez was OK, but that his performance probably looks better because he wasn’t as bad as some of his teammates. His passing was very good, as usual, and he was better off-the-ball movement.

Cole Palmer: 3/10

Palmer has been advertised by some in the fan base as the go-to creator. He did not do much creating in the Newcastle game, and that is mainly why he got a low rating.
