Injuries are not just a thing the men’s team suffer from. Chelsea Women have its own fair share in the midst of two important competitions. The club’s captain, and the top-two goal scorers from last season are currently listed on the west Londoners’ injury report. That is not even the conclusion of the list.

Two games in UEFA Women’s Champions League against Hacken, and two in the Women’s Super League are all that stands in CFCW’s way of the extended break. Here’s a look at where the injury list stands with more than week until the next match for Emma Hayes’ side.

Note: Jelena Cankovic has not made the bench for three games. Her status (whether that be an injury or not) as of the time of writing is unknown.

Chelsea Women squad injury news and possible return dates

Sam Kerr

Possible return date: Dec. 10 vs. Arsenal

On Monday, both the Australian Women’s National Team and Chels’ confirmed that forward Sam Kerr will not feature in the December international window. 20-year-old Sarah Hunter replaced Kerr in Tony Gustavsson’s team while No. 20 stays in London for treatment. The fourth place finishers at this last World Cup are set to take on Canada, a side with three Blues twice. Once in Langford, and once in Vancouver.

The severity of the injury is unknown, but one would think this is not anything close to long-term. The star striker has scored four goals in the last two contests combined. The cautious approach is the right approach. If she isn’t 100%, why travel to Canada? The two-time Chelsea Women’s Player of the Year should be back for arguably the biggest game of the season so far, away at Arsenal.
