Right Back: Axel Disasi (France)

Reece James is suspended and Malo Gusto has not rejoined training. Ideally Pochettino would’ve turned towards Marc Cucurella to fill in at right back but the Spaniard too will be facing a suspension. This leaves the Blues with Axel Disasi who has played in that role a couple of times this season and would be preferred over Moises Caicedo.

Centre Back: Thiago Silva (Brazil)

The fanbase was quick to react and criticize the veteran’s performance against Newcastle, forgetting that he has been single handedly organizing the defence amongst all the inexperience around him. Some of the hate was really unwarranted and Premier League legend – Rio Ferdinand addressed the situation quite well;

"“Forget the performances, to be getting out there at 39 he deserves a medal. It’s mad. At 36/37 I was on the way to A&E almost after every game I was in so much pain. It was hard. I don’t know he’s doing it. It’s unreal. You’ve got to respect his professionalism. He’s had a bad game this weekend. Who cares.”"

Centre Back: Benoit Badiashile (France)

Although Badiashile didn’t play as well as we’d want him to, the Gaffer will not be too hard on him as he’s just lacking match sharpness. In fact, Chelsea have decided to reject any offers for the Frenchman in January, amid loan interest from AC Milan who are facing an injury crisis in defence. We have already witnessed his quality last season and he could prove to be crucial in the upcoming month as fixture congestion will naturally lead to squad rotation.

Left Back: Levi Colwill (England)

With 4/4 unavailable natural fullbacks, Levi Colwill will continue in his role at left back. He has struggled when dealing with quick breakaways and will be expected to go into overdrive as he’ll be playing alongside Badiashile who is looking forward to his second Premier League start this season.
