Pedro Neto

With Chelsea’s attacking options severely depleted due to injuries, Pedro Neto has emerged as an unexpected solution for Enzo Maresca. Nicolas Jackson’s injury in the 2-1 win over West Ham, followed by Marc Guiu’s setback, left Chelsea short of natural strikers.

Christopher Nkunku struggled when deployed as the lone forward in the 3-0 defeat to Brighton, and a false-nine experiment with Cole Palmer also failed to spark the attack.

Maresca was forced to roll the dice once again against Aston Villa, this time turning to Neto as the No. 9. The move showed promise, with the Portuguese winger leading the line effectively and providing the assist for Enzo Fernández’s opening goal at Villa Park.

With injuries ruling out Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu, and Mykhailo Mudryk, Neto is now a nailed-on starter in Chelsea’s attack. When asked about the possibility of Neto continuing as the striker, Maresca hinted that it could be a viable option moving forward.

Despite his limited minutes this season, Neto has registered two goals and three assists in the Premier League. His versatility and pace make him a dangerous asset, especially against a Southampton side that has conceded eight goals in their last three away games. If given another start up front, Neto will be eager to make an impact and open his goal-scoring account as Chelsea’s makeshift No. 9.
