Enzo Fernández
Chelsea’s vice-captain, Enzo Fernández, was one of the bright spots in Chelsea’s damaging 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, scoring the Blues’ only goal at Villa Park. Despite Chelsea’s struggles, Fernández remains one of the most influential figures in the squad.
The Argentine has registered four goals and five assists in the Premier League this season—only Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, and Noni Madueke have contributed more. However, his attacking impact has been inconsistent, largely due to Chelsea’s midfield setup.

Fernández was at his best when partnered with Romeo Lavia, as the young midfielder’s presence allowed him to push forward with greater freedom. Since Lavia’s latest muscle injury, Fernández has had to sit deeper, limiting his attacking contributions.
Under Enzo Maresca’s heavy possession-based system, Fernández plays a crucial role in dictating Chelsea’s tempo and controlling the game. As arguably Chelsea’s best midfielder, his technical brilliance, composure, and winning mentality set him apart—no other player in the squad comes close to matching his trophy haul.
If given the license to venture forward, as he did against Aston Villa, Fernández has the quality to cause serious problems for Southampton. Against a team struggling defensively, his creativity, passing range, and goal threat could be key in unlocking the Saints' backline. Expect him to be heavily involved as Chelsea look to bounce back.
