Marc Cucurella
Marc Cucurella is expected to start at left-back once again against Leicester. The former Brighton defender has firmly established himself as the first-choice left-back in Maresca’s side this season.
He came off the bench in the UEFA Europa Conference League match against Copenhagen following Malo Gusto’s injury. Cucurella provided the assist for Chelsea’s first goal and won the ball high up the pitch, that fell to Nkunku leading to Chelsea second goal by Enzo Fernandez.
Cucurella also found the net against Southampton in the last league game, taking his tally to three goals and two assists in the Premier League this season—the best attacking return of any Chelsea defender.
Alongside Colwill, he has been a consistent presence in Chelsea’s backline. Cucurella has started Chelsea’s last 10 league matches, playing the full 90 minutes in each, highlighting his importance to Maresca’s set up at Chelsea. Against the worst away side in the league, he will be expected to put in another strong performance, potentially adding to his goal contributions against Maresca former employers.
