Like every other summer transfer window, Chelsea are expected to be busy this time around as well. The Blues are pushing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and if successful, one would imagine that that would allow them to go out and spend big. A Spanish international appears to be in their sights in that regard.

Centre-back is a position Chelsea could be looking to strengthen. Levi Colwill has not really developed at the rate that Blues fans were hoping for. On the other hand, the other spot in the heart of defence has been up in the air due to Wesley Fofana's constant fitness issues.

For now, Trevoh Chalobah seems to have established himself as the starter there, despite having spent the first half of the season out on loan. But it has never really felt like he is viewed as the long-term option there.

Dean Huijsen of Bournemouth has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign and it appears that it has caught the eye of Chelsea. As reported by Football FanCast, journalist Simon Phillips said via his Substack:

"Agent Ali Barat is working on the deal and is pushing Huijsen towards Chelsea.

"The player’s father has so far been keen for him to join Liverpool. The player has always said that he won't make a decision until the season ends, but Chelsea continue to work on it, as do Liverpool."

Huijsen appears to be an elite talent and at 20 years of age, one would expect him to get even better with time and experience. There is believed to be a £50 million release clause in his contract. In the modern transfer market, that feels like a reasonable fee for someone of his potential.

It looks like it might come down to Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to sign Huijsen. Real Madrid are another club who have been linked with him as well. Let's see what the future holds.

For now, Chelsea need to concentrate on finishing this season strong. There are three more games in the Premier League and they must find a way to finish in the top 5. After that, they might also have the chance to win silverware in the form of the Conference League.
