Chelsea have some of the best youngsters in world football right now and the team is on an upward trajectory, having won the Club World Cup this summer. On the back of that success, many felt that this was the window to go out and bring in some experience, to try and put up a genuine Premier League challenge next season. But it looks like the Blues are going to stick to their policy of signing rising talents rather than go for the tried-and-tested.

Chelsea just announced the signing of Jorrel Hato from Ajax. They are also believed to be closing in on a deal for Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig and are interested in Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United. Both are believed to be keen on heading to Stamford Bridge.

Amid all this, it looks like Chelsea tried to sign one of Barcelona's midfielders this summer. But they were turned down by the Spanish champions.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona rejected an offer from Chelsea to swap Fermín Lopez for Christopher Nkunku. Hansi Flick is a big fan of his and is clear that he doesn't want to let him leave because he believes deeply in his potential.

That would have helped Chelsea on two accounts. Firstly, Lopez is a brilliant talent and he would be a great addition to any team. Secondly, it is very clear that the Blues want to part ways with Nkunku this summer.

But Barcelona were seemingly uninterested. There is no reason for them to start parting with their best talents either.

For a few years, Barcelona struggled to bring through players from La Masia. But now, they are once again back and nurturing top talents on a consistent basis. Lopez is just one of them.
