This weekend could determine a lot in the Premier League this season. Now, many might claim that it is far too early in the season to be making such claims. But then, so far, the two standout teams in England have been Chelsea and Arsenal, and the two are set to face each other in a top of the table clash at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal have been brilliant from the start. They have been rock solid defensively and have found ways to win games going forward, even if they are not prolific. In many ways, Chelsea have been the opposite. They have a lot of quality going forward but look shaky at the back when put under pressure.
So, this game is finely balanced with the two teams having contrasting strengths. Chelsea fans will be hoping that Enzo Maresca is able to work his big game magic once again. On the other hand, Arsenal supporters must be looking towards Mikel Arteta to finally deliver the Premier League title after coming second multiple times.
Speaking before the match, Arteta was asked if Chelsea are the best attacking team in the league. The Arsenal manager said:
"The sample now, it's a bit early in the season, so it's difficult to say, but it's one of the teams that I enjoy the most watching, and they have a lot of fluidity, they have a lot of strength, they have a lot of individual talent, they are very clear what they want to do, and that's why they’re pretty tough."
'It's a bit early' - Mikel Arteta makes bold Chelsea claim
Well, Chelsea were handed some brilliant news earlier this week as it was confirmed that Cole Palmer had recovered and was available for the game against Arsenal. While it has been claimed that he is ready to start, do not expect him to be in the starting lineup. The Englishman has not featured in ten weeks and should be given time to play his way back into match fitness.
Chelsea still have a lot of quality going forward even without Palmer though. A lot of eyes will be on Estevao although there is no guarantee that he will start against Arsenal, having done so in midweek vs Barcelona.
Chelsea fans cannot make the mistake of thinking that this game will be similar to the one against Barcelona though. In the past, they might have had similarities, but these days, Arsenal are a completely different side. They are built on defensive solidity and the Blues will have a much tougher time trying to find openings in their defence.
All things considered, Arsenal have to be the favourites going into this London derby. That being said, the 'underdog' tag does suit Chelsea quite well.
