Chelsea fans have reacted positively to BlueCo’s latest move, with the club finally beginning to trim a bloated squad and move on players who are no longer needed.
There have been few positives surrounding Todd Boehly’s ownership group since they took control of Chelsea in 2022, but supporters are certainly giving the club’s hierarchy credit for clearing out some of the unwanted players and helping shape a much more settled first-team squad.
The reaction comes after Chelsea’s latest sale, with another player now edging closer to the Stamford Bridge exit door.
Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal worth £45m to sign Liam Delap from Chelsea, who have also opened talks over selling Nicolas Jackson to Aston Villa. The sale of the English forward representing a £15m or so profit after a poor to average season has had every Chelsea fan applauding after hearing the news.
There is plenty of positive noise among the fanbase regarding Jackson’s potential departure, largely because he represents one of the highest-value assets within Chelsea’s so-called “bomb squad”. His exit would not only help trim the size of the squad but could also bring a significant transfer fee back into the club, allowing Chelsea to continue reshaping the first team.
And Jackson may not be the only player saying goodbye to Stamford Bridge this summer. Omari Kellyman has already completed a move to sister club Strasbourg, while Mamadou Sarr looks set to head to Spain on a season-long loan. These departures are another indication that Chelsea are finally beginning to find a clearer pathway for players who are unlikely to feature prominently under Xabi Alonso.
Enzo Fernandez profit?
Another potential sale that has split the fanbase is Enzo Fernandez. Some supporters want to see him leave if he is genuinely flirting with a move elsewhere, while others believe Chelsea should keep hold of him given his quality and importance to the team.
There are reports this evening that Fernandez’s camp are in daily contact with Manchester City over a possible reunion with Enzo Maresca, with the Premier League champions reportedly preparing another bid worth £120 million in the coming days. Whether Chelsea would accept such an offer and, crucially, whether they could find a suitable replacement before the transfer window closes, remains to be seen. However, a bid of that magnitude would surely have to be considered and could represent a remarkable piece of transfer business for the Blues.
Who knows what will happen but at least the club is not shooting themselves in the foot again, like they did in the past.
