With only a few days left before the new Premier League season begins, Chelsea are gearing up for their opening game against Crystal Palace on Sunday. However, their transfer operations seem to be far from over, as the Blues still have some business left to do, both in terms of incomings and outgoings. With that being said, reports are coming that a new suitor has emerged for a player who is expected to depart the summer window closes.

The player we're talking about is Renato Veiga. He joined Chelsea from FC Basel for around €14m last year and has appeared in 18 games for the Blues, scoring twice.

However, he struggled to establish himself as a regular in the starting XI, and decided to leave the club during the January window in order to play consistent football in his preferred position of centre-back. He got that at Juventus.

Veiga spent the second half of the season on loan at Juventus and impressed during his brief stint. In the eyes of many, the Portuguese international should now be brought back into the first-team fold, especially after Levi Colwill's injury.

Earlier this summer, the Portuguese defender's transfer to Atletico Madrid fell through, whilst Bayern Munich have also been linked. Furthermore, after being impressed by his half-season loan spell earlier this year, Juventus have also renewed their interest in signing him. And now a new club have joined the race to sign the 22-year-old.

According to Sky Sport, Borussia Dortmund are also once again considering a move for Veiga. The club had already agreed to terms with the 22-year-old Portuguese last summer. However, a transfer never materialised.

Following the announcement that Colwill had suffered an ACL injury, there was speculation that Veiga could be reintegrated into the first-team squad. However, there has been no substantial update on this, and it seems quite unlikely to happen. So, as of now, it is expected that Chelsea will part with him before the end of the transfer window.

Now it remains to be seen which among these clubs will be the next destination for the Portuguese international or will it be somewhere else entirely. With still more than two weeks remaining until the transfer deadline, a lot could still happen.
