Cobham Center-Backs Struggle in Defeat

Chelsea’s center-back pairing for the match featured Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill, two Cobham academy graduates. Both had a nightmare performance. Some fans like to push the narrative that Chalobah is Chelsea’s best center-back. But once again, he proves he’s nothing more than an average defender at best.

In Chelsea’s FA Cup loss to Brighton, he was at fault for the first goal due to poor marking. On Friday, he was once again culpable. He failed to deal with Kaoru Mitoma for the opener. For Brighton’s second goal, Chalobah had an opportunity to clear the ball properly but, despite facing no pressure, his poor clearance went straight to Brighton. Moments later, Chelsea conceded again.

Levi Colwill is another player overrated by Chelsea fans despite showing little to justify such a reputation. Before Brighton’s third goal, he lost his footing after a slight push from Danny Welbeck. The referee rightly waved play on, as the contact was minimal. Instead of getting back up and defending, Colwill remained on the ground, sulking and complaining that the decision didn’t go his way. With no cover at the back, Brighton easily added a third.
