Wesley Fofana is dynamic no matter where he plays
Another concern from the Chelsea lineup release was the surprise inclusion of Wesley Fofana at his less familiar position of right back. Reece James was expected to start there but missed out on the squad entirely after coming down with an illness and running a fever.
The concern for Fofana was that after a long injury layoff he would be playing the more taxing position at fullback rather than the more stationary center back role. Given his history of hamstring and other soft tissue injuries the concern was very real but instead, Fofana looked like the most dynamic player on the pitch in the first half.
Fofana managed 71 touches in 73 minutes and had several key interecptions and recoveries to quell any Leicester attacks. There was one moment that stands out in the first half where Fofana intercepted a wayward pass and turned on the jets on a one man counter attack.
Unfortunately none of his teammates followed his run and he opted to pass backward to keep possession but it was a glimpse of his dynamism that has been sorely missed in the Chelsea defense. With Malo Gusto hurt and Enzo Maresca opting to play James in midfield, having a healthy Fofana as an option at right back could be a massive boost to Chelsea in the final stretch of the season.
