1. Enzo Maresca’s Loyalty to Robert Sánchez is Costing Chelsea
Robert Sánchez was dropped from the starting lineup after months of poor performances. Instead of ensuring he never played for Chelsea again, he was inexplicably given starts in cup competitions. Last Thursday against Copenhagen, he once again proved to be a disaster in goal. Yet, for some reason, he was back starting in the Premier League.
It is baffling how an unreliable goalkeeper keeps getting opportunities over others. Twice, he has started the season as Chelsea’s first-choice keeper, only to be dropped because of his performances. There was a reason Brighton had him as their third-choice option.
On Sunday, Leicester’s best chance came in the first half when Sánchez, for some reason, jumped without any confidence he would catch an incoming cross. Not only did he miss the ball completely, but he also disrupted Tosin Adarabioyo, whose clearance ended up hitting the crossbar. It is unbelievable that Maresca continues to persist with him.
