2. A Lackluster Performance and Cole Palmer’s Struggles
Securing the win and moving into the top four was crucial, but Chelsea’s overall performance left much to be desired. A home fixture against a side with the league’s worst away defense should have resulted in a more comfortable scoreline than 1-0.
The attackers once again struggled to make an impact, and Cole Palmer’s dip in form is not helping matters. He had the chance to regain confidence when Chelsea were awarded a penalty. Coming into the match with a 100% penalty success rate, it was evident he lacked confidence as he stepped up. His weak effort was easily saved, further highlighting his struggles.
Chelsea’s best performances since Palmer’s arrival have revolved around him being at his best. With big games ahead, the team desperately needs him to rediscover his top form. It is up to Maresca to find a system that allows his best player to flourish again.
