Chelsea secured a hard-fought victory in the London Derby against West Ham last night. The Blues needed the win to bounce back from a tough run, which had seen them go winless in six games — including the embarrassing loss to Manchester City last week, a defeat that looks even worse now after Arsenal hammered Pep Guardiola's side.
A superb finish from Pedro Neto and a deflection off Aaron Wan-Bissaka were enough to seal all three points for Chelsea. Graham Potter returned to Stamford Bridge for the first time since his sacking, and to the relief of the home fans, it wasn’t a memorable outing for him. Here's how The Pride of London rated the west London side after the win:
Keeper and Defense
Filip Jorgensen: 7/10
Jorgensen wasn’t bad but could have done better. His distribution, in particular, was poor. There was nothing he could do about the goal Chelsea conceded — it was an outstanding finish from Jarrod Bowen. If Enzo Maresca is considering giving the Danish keeper a chance, Jorgensen hasn’t yet done enough to force a return for Robert Sanchez.
Reece James: 7/10
James wasn’t great defensively, but he was crucial in possession. He made a team-high 12 passes into the final third, underscoring his importance in buildup play and ball movement. He was also excellent in the air.
Tosin Adarabioyo: 7.5/10
Tosin was solid, with many fans likely remembering him for the crucial block that denied Mohamed Kudus an equalizer. He was better in the air than on the ground but also played an important role in progressing the ball.
Levi Colwill: 7.5/10
Despite a few mistakes, Colwill had a strong performance. His distribution was a bit lacking, but defensively, he was excellent, winning 7 out of 8 tackles and 13 out of 16 duels. He was outstanding both in the air and on the ground. The number of tackles he made suggests the center-backs were again under pressure, but Colwill handled it superbly.
Marc Cucurella: 6/10
Cucurella was good defensively, and his distribution was acceptable for a full-back. His tackling was solid, though he struggled in aerial duels.
