So far in the January transfer window, Chelsea have not made any significant moves that will affect the squad. It is a very different story in the dugout though, where they have changed managers. Enzo Maresca was sacked less than six months after his Club World Cup triumph with the Blues. Their form had been poor, but it is a rumoured falling out with the ownership behind the scenes that is believed to have been the driving force behind the decision.
It has led to questions about whether any manager is capable of working for long under the model that the Clearlake-Boehly ownership has put in place at Chelsea. Liam Rosenior is the next one who will try to make it work, having been handed a six-and-a-half-year contract upon his arrival from sister club Strasbourg.
Let's see if Chelsea end up deciding to back him in the winter transfer window or whether the plan is to continue with the squad that they have before assessing the situation and making changes at the end of the season. We are ten days into January, and there are no substantial rumours about impending moves, despite the nightmare run of form that the club have been on.
This is another complaint that the fans have about the owners. Do you think Manchester City would sit silently in a similar situation? On the contrary, they have already gone out and signed arguably the best player in the league, playing outside of the traditional big six team in the form of Antoine Semenyo.
Chelsea announce defender's return to Stamford Bridge
The focus on Chelsea seems to be on swapping and shifting things. The club have announced that Caleb Wiley has returned to the club after being recalled from his loan at Watford.
Do not expect Wiley to be involved in the first-team picture though. He had struggled to make an impact at Watford, and it is likely that he will end up on another loan spell somewhere else.
In the long run, it is hard to see Wiley making the grade at Chelsea if he can't even do it at Watford in the Championship. Unfortunately, the club have signed far too many such players under this new transfer model, which has left them trailing their title rivals like Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool despite spending more money than them. Unsurprisingly, the fans are starting to turn on the ownership.
