It looks like Chelsea have made a bold Marc Guehi transfer decision for the January window, with Liverpool also interested.

Judging from the comments Enzo Maresca made earlier in the season, it felt like he wanted Chelsea to sign another centre-back in this summer transfer window following Levi Colwill's ACL injury, which could rule him out for the entire season. But the Blues did not seem to keen to add another defender to their ranks, and in the end, no signing was made.

It remains to be seen if that proves to be the right decision or not. Chelsea have conceded just once over their first three games. But much tougher tests lie ahead.

The game against Bayern Munich might be a good measuring point for this team. Hopefully, they will be able to get a positive result against the Bavarians. But if the Blues struggle to contain top teams in the Champions League, the centre-back situation might become one worth rectifying in the January transfer window.

But as reported by TEAMtalk, Chelsea sources are downplaying suggestions that the club could make a January move for Marc Guehi. A signing in that position has not been ruled out, but the Crystal Palace captain is not being pursued at this point.

Guehi came through the Chelsea academy setup and over the past few years, he has established himself as a top centre-back in the Premier League and with the England national team. So, it is easy to understand why many consider him to be the perfect fit for the Blues.

That being said, one can also see why Chelsea might be reluctant to add another centre-back to their ranks. Josh Acheampong is expected to get more playing time this season but after an excellent opening day performance, he has been left on the bench as an unused substitute in the following two games. Signing another defender would reduce his playing time further and he might want to leave.

Then there is the long-term picture surrounding Colwill. He might be out for the foreseeable future but he is viewed as a Chelsea starter for years to come. So, unless this defence struggles badly over the coming months, do not expect another signing to be made.
