Chelsea have been doing business left, right and centre in the final days of the transfer window. In the last two days, they accepted a deal for Christopher Nkunku to join AC Milan, agreed a deal to bring in Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, and reached an agreement to sign Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. And today another transfer looked to have been confirmed.
Nicolas Jackson has been one of many players linked with a move away this summer. For the past two seasons, he has been Chelsea's starting centre-forward, scoring 30 goals in 81 appearances. Despite this, he has always had question marks around his name, owing to his underwhelming finishing and disciplinary record.
Jackson further seemed to have slid to third in the pecking order when the Blues acquired Liam Delap and Joao Pedro earlier this window. As a result, he wanted to leave this summer in search of regular first-team football. Aston Villa and Newcastle had shown interest, but it looked like Bayern Munich had won the race for his signature.
Earlier today, Fabrizio Romano reported that Bayern Munich had reached an agreement to sign Jackson on loan. They were set to pay a €15m loan fee to sign the centre-forward for the 2025/26 season, with an €80m buy option and sell-on clause.
Chelsea cancel Nicolas Jackson's Bayern Munich move after Liam Delap injury
Now, that move seems to have been derailed. As reported by Sky Sports, Chelsea are pulling out of Jackson's proposed loan deal to Bayern Munich. They have asked him to return from Germany after Delap sustained an injury in the game against Fulham.
Delap is expected to remain out for six to eight weeks. So, if Jackson leaves, Chelsea would be left with only Pedro as an option up top.
Let's see if this turns out to be a short-term solution and Jackson leaves in January when Delap is back to fitness. Or perhaps he will be able to revive his Chelsea career and get back into Enzo Maresca's plans.
