Chelsea have struggled to score goals in the 2024-25 season but help could be on the way in the form of Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha. The £62 million man has been in great form this year and is well on his way to topping his 14 goal mark in the 2023-24 season.
Cunha has been the best player on a struggling Wolves team that has collected just 19 points this year and are only 2 points above the relegation zone. Wolves have scored 34 goals in 24 games and the Brazilian has played a role in 16 of them with 11 goals and 4 assists to his name.
Manchester United, Arsenal, and even Spurs are reportedly interested in Cunha as well and they are probably hoping for a Wolves relegation to make the swoop even easier. Cunha usually lines up in the number 10 role currently occupied by Cole Palmer but he has also been successful as a center forward or secondary striker.
United are likely the most desparate to bring him considering how bad Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have been for the Red Devils. Arsenal could look at Cunha as a replacement for Gabriel Jesus who has been phased out but may have a larger role after the Kai Havertz injury.
At Chelsea, the Brazilian is not a like for like replacement for Jackson given his ability to play in attacking midfield, but he has the physicality to play as a solitary forward and has done so for Wolves and Brazil in the past. He is only 25 years old which is the sweet spot for Chelsea’s current transfer approach where he has yet to enter his prime but is old enough to contribute right away.
Cunha would cost a pretty penny at £62 million but Chelsea have showed a willingness to spend big when the time comes on players that can score goals. They recently spent £51.3 million on Pedro Neto from Wolves and could go back to that well for a player that is in a more premium position. Cunha is not the out and out striker that Chelsea fans have been calling for but could help solve some of those goal-scoring woes that have plagued the Blues all year.
