Chelsea have been one of the most active clubs in world football when it comes to transfers in recent years. Unfortunately, the results on the pitch have not reflected the level of investment that has been made. There are signs of progress though, with the club finishing fourth in the Premier League and winning the Conference League. Of course, the Blues need to aim a lot higher but at least there are positive signs.
Many at the club might feel that these results are proof that their transfer strategy of signing only youngsters is starting to bear fruit. And it looks like they are going to stick with it.
As reported by Meczyki, Chelsea have begun talks with Motor Lublin regarding the signing of Bright Ede. The Blues are very keen and want to close the deal soon. The transfer fee could be record-breaking and break the barrier of €11 million mark.
That is a significant amount to pay to sign someone who has only six senior appearances to his name. But at this point in time, it is pretty clear that this is the strategy that Chelsea are going to follow, for good or for bad.
Chelsea could make record bid to sign Polish defender
Of course, Ede is a bright prospect. There is no doubt about that. The transfer fee that is being touted is enough proof.
It looks like Chelsea already have a plan for him as well. It has been suggested that Ede will first be sent out on loan to Strasbourg, with the long-term aim of developing into a player capable of playing for the Blues.
That being said, Chelsea need to stop signing one wonderkid after another and look to add some experience to their squad, if they want to challenge for and win the big titles. Otherwise, this will forever remain a project, and not a winning one.
