Although Chelsea did a good job in terms of engineering departures this summer, they still have some players who are not in the club’s future plans. The Blues will be looking to get these names off their books but it might not be a simple task considering they failed over the course of an entire transfer window.
The departure of Axel Disasi will be somewhat easier to pull off in the winter or even before that if clubs from leagues that still have their window open submit a viable offer. It is believed that Disasi turned down three Premier League clubs on deadline day.
On the other hand, it is a different story for Raheem Sterling altogether. The Englishman is supposedly the highest-paid player in Chelsea’s squad as of now with a salary reportedly in the region of £300,000 per week. On top of that, he is keen to stay in London, let alone move to any other league.
Nevertheless, as previously reported, the Blues could look for creative ways. As reported by Football Insider Chelsea could offer Raheem Sterling a £10million payment to terminate his deal at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea could offer Sterling £10 million to part ways
Although this may sound good in theory, it will be really difficult to pull off. Sterling, who will be paid close to £30 million in the last two years of his contract, has no real impetus to move elsewhere. Of course, unless he wants to play regular football, which he won't be getting at Stamford Bridge.
This summer, West Ham and Fulham showed interest in the player, although a deal failed to materialise in time. It remains to be seen if they come back for him when the transfer window reopens in January.
Of course, then the value of the player would drop even further, as Sterling would spend the next few months without any first-team football. But you never know, a lot of unexpected things can happen in football.
