Chelsea have entered the midway point of the winter transfer window with a notable move, recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan to address their defensive struggles. As the club eyes potential reinforcements, the prospect of player departures could play a significant role in reshaping the squad and raising funds for further investments. The Blues could raise up to €100 million through player sales, even if the full market value of certain individuals isn’t met.

Christopher Nkunku (Market Value: €50 million)

Signed for €60 million from RB Leipzig, Christopher Nkunku was expected to be a key player for Chelsea. However, injuries, competition from new signings, and the tactical system under Enzo Maresca have limited his role. The French international has expressed a desire to leave in search of regular playing time, with Bayern Munich emerging as a potential destination. Chelsea have reportedly set a valuation of €70 million for Nkunku, though they are unlikely to accept less than the fee paid to secure his services in 2023.

Axel Disasi (Market Value: €30 million)

Axel Disasi made a solid initial impression after his arrival but has struggled with consistency, making several high-profile errors during the season. The French center-back has attracted interest from Serie A giants Juventus. While Disasi’s market value stands at €30 million, Chelsea might have to settle for a fee in the range of €15-20 million due to his recent performances and limited playing time.

Cesare Casadei (Market Value: €10 million)

Cesare Casadei has played just 495 minutes for Chelsea and is keen on a move away from Stamford Bridge. Reports suggest that Serie A clubs, including Lazio and Napoli, are interested in the 21-year-old midfielder. Having been signed for €14.86 million, Chelsea are unlikely to make a profit on the Italian and may even have to accept a loss on the transfer.

Ben Chilwell (Market Value: €20 million)

Ben Chilwell, Chelsea’s Champions League-winning left-back, has fallen out of favor under Enzo Maresca. The Englishman’s only appearance this season came in a brief EFL Cup outing against AFC Barrow, and he was notably absent from the FA Cup squad against Morecambe. While Chelsea are eager to offload the 28-year-old, his high wages could complicate a transfer. Should a suitor emerge, the Blues might secure a fee in the region of €20-25 million.

Additional Departures

Midfielders Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Carney Chukwuemeka have also attracted interest. Newly appointed West Ham manager Graham Potter is reportedly keen on signing either one or both players, while Borussia Dortmund have expressed interest in Chukwuemeka, though only on a loan basis. Chelsea, however, prefer a permanent transfer for the 21-year-old. Dortmund’s pursuit of Renato Veiga may impact their plans for Chukwuemeka, but Chelsea’s stance on cashing in remains firm.

The Path Ahead

Chelsea’s potential to raise significant funds through these sales could pave the way for major reinforcements, particularly in the attacking department. With Nicolas Jackson currently leading the line, the Blues are in the market for a second striker to provide competition and depth. Chelsea have expressed interest in Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap and could also be in the market for other top strikers. As the window progresses, Chelsea’s activity in both outgoing and incoming deals will be pivotal in shaping the squad for the remainder of the season and beyond.
