Defensive Concerns
Chelsea’s center-back situation is a major concern. Ever since Wesley Fofana’s injury, they have struggled defensively. Benoît Badiashile initially looked like a decent replacement, but he too suffered an injury. That left Tosin Adarabioyo and Levi Colwill as the primary pairing, but their poor form led to academy defender Josh Acheampong being given a run in the team.
During the January transfer window, Trevoh Chalobah was recalled from his loan at Crystal Palace, while Axel Disasi was surprisingly loaned out. Since then, the center-back rotation has been shared between Colwill, Adarabioyo, and Chalobah, with the selection process seemingly based on who made the fewest mistakes.
On a positive note, Filip Jörgensen has been confirmed as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper moving forward. A shot-stopper who is not error-prone like Robert Sánchez should provide some stability. Regardless, the center-backs still have a job to do, and unfortunately, Chelsea’s current options are far from convincing.
