Chelsea fans took to social media last night to air their opinions following Chelsea’s defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League.
The 2-1 loss saw Chelsea take the lead through Morgan Rogers in the second minute before Arsenal fought back with goals from Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz. Despite the defeat, the team played well for large periods, and there was no widespread anger directed towards any individual player for a dismal performance.
However, there was a significant sense of injustice felt throughout the 90 minutes, with Chelsea fans left aggrieved by several incidents during the game.
Comments across Facebook, X and Reddit posts from Chelsea fan channels have shared a common theme: Arsenal appeared to get away with murder during the game in two highlighted incidents.
The first incident
The first incident happened from an Arsenal set-piece with the ball turning into a goalmouth scramble, with the Brazilian defender at the bottom of the ruck with multiple Chelsea defenders.
In tussling for the ball with Jorrel Hato and in an attempt to get a shot on target, Gabriel's boot went quite high above the ball and connected with Emi Martinez's face, leaving the Chelsea goalkeeper requiring treatment after he had stayed down.
Due to making contact with Martinez's face, Gabriel was therefore risking a potential red card for violent conduct. Former Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney, agrees that it should have been sent to VAR for review at the very least.

The second incident
The second incident came when Declan Rice appeared to deliberately trip Morgan Rogers while Chelsea were in an attacking position, with the former Aston Villa star in a dangerous position ahead of the Premier League’s golden boy. It was a potential goalscoring opportunity, and perhaps even the chance for an equaliser, that was ruthlessly denied.
The incident went unpunished, and Rice, who arguably should have received a yellow card, was then protected from an understandably angry Rogers.
Either way, it could be another escape for the champions in a match that was ultimately deemed a fair result in Arsenal’s favour, but one that was potentially aided by both the referee and VAR.
