Cole Palmer has taken his England snub in his stride and appears fully focused on resting in time for next season.
The 24-year-old had a poor season by his standards, and, as a result, was left out of Thomas Tuchel's final 26-man England squad for this summer's World Cup.
Cole Palmer unfazed by England snub
Reacting in true Cole Palmer fashion, Palmer has taken Tuchel's decision in his stride and has turned the disappointment into a positive.
“This season hasn’t been the best, but it is what it is,” he told i-D Magazine (via Standard).
“I’m not crying over a decision you can’t change, and I hope the lads make it all the way. If I’m not doing anything, then I’ll watch the matches.”
“I’m going to relax this summer, rest for the first time in 3 or 4 years, before getting back to what I love.
Even though Palmer didn't perform to his absolute best last season, many still feel he should've been on the plane.
The Three Lions' 0-0 draw against Ghana on Tuesday looked like the perfect match for the 24-year-old to come on and influence. It wasn't to be though, and the midfielder isn't losing any sleep over it.
He continued: “Football is just a game of finding the moments. You can do something one game and not the next, and they’ll be on you. That’s how it works. I just try to not pay attention to the outside noise and just do what I do.”
Good news for Chelsea
Palmer's controversial exclusion means he has been given over a month to rest and recover before Chelsea's opening Premier League match against Fulham on August 24.
While some supporters understand Tuchel's decision not to take him, and others feel he should've gone to North America, no one can deny the benefits to Chelsea.
Xabi Alonso is now just days away from officially taking charge, and he'll want his best players fully fit and firing in time for his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Palmer, of course, falls into this category, so Alonso will be chomping at the bit to get started to get the Englishman back to his best, because an in form Palmer means an in form Chelsea.
And with no European football next season, it's crucial the Blues get off to the best possible start as they look to reclaim their place among the continent's best.
