Chelsea's need for a striker is not unknown. The Blues have struggled for a consistent goalscorer since Diego Costa left the club. Since then, they have brought in the likes of Alvaro Morata, Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku and more, but have never found the solution to their problems. For a while, it had looked like Joao Pedro was going to be that man but even his early form has faded away badly over time, although, not being fully fit might be a big reason behind that dip.

They also signed Liam Delap in the summer and there has been a lot of hype surrounding his return from injury. But one cannot forget that he has only scored once for the Blues so far and also picked up a needless red card on his comeback appearance, showing another shortcoming in his game.

So, do not be surprised if Chelsea go out and sign another striker at some point in the near future. In fact, it looks like they have one on their radar. And it is someone who they almost signed not too long ago.

As reported by Fichajes, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the favourites to sign Samu Aghehowa in the upcoming winter transfer window. The Spanish striker has a contract running until 2029 and a release clause exceeding €100 million.

There have been some suggestions though that FC Porto are facing financial troubles at the moment. If that is accurate, then they might not be in a position to turn down a hefty offer for Samu, if that does come in.

Chelsea had everything agreed regarding a deal for Samu last summer, when they were about to sign him for about €40 million from Atletico Madrid. But it fell apart at the final step for some reason, and they ended up bringing in Joao Felix instead.

Felix failed at Chelsea and has already left for Al-Nassr. On the other hand, Samu would go on to join FC Porto and has made a name for himself there. Last season, he scored 27 goals across all competitions and this time around, he already has 9 in 12 games.
