Chelsea have undoubtedly been handed the chance to sign Alex Scott in January.

Bournemouth have been outstanding since their 5-1 defeat against Chelsea, winning six consecutive matches in all competitions. Even more impressively, they have scored 16 goals without conceding a single one.

That is a remarkable response to their worst result of the season, but there is another detail that could prove decisive for the Blues. The Cherries have managed that run without their highly rated midfielder.

Scott remains one of the most exciting young English midfielders around, but Bournemouth may not be as dependent on him as they once thought.

Bournemouth's incredible run could change their Alex Scott transfer stance

Bournemouth's six-match winning streak has been impressive given the circumstances. Marco Rose's side have found a way to keep winning without Scott, who has been sidelined with a thigh injury since the last international break.

Their defensive record during that period has been outstanding, while 16 goals at the other end prove that they aren't struggling to create opportunities without their midfield star.

According to reports, Bournemouth are prepared to consider selling Scott for around £100million, provided their Premier League position makes his departure possible. The England international has rejected two contract offers and is approaching the final 18 months of his existing deal.

Chelsea have already tested Bournemouth's resolve, with a summer offer worth around £64million rejected. However, the Blues, along with Liverpool, remain interested and could return when the transfer window reopens.

There have been conflicting reports about whether Bournemouth would actually sanction a January departure, with some outlets reporting recently that the club were reluctant to sell midway through the season.

But their recent form could strengthen their position in negotiations. If they continue collecting points without Scott, there may be less pressure to keep him at all costs.

Chelsea should be ready to take advantage

Chelsea have good reason to feel optimistic ahead of the January transfer window.

The club need to strengthen their midfield options, particularly after Enzo Fernandez's departure to Manchester City. Scott offers the ability to operate in deeper midfield positions while also contributing further forward, making him an attractive option for Xabi Alonso.

At 23, he also has plenty of room to develop and could become an important player for years to come.

Bournemouth will understandably want a big fee. They paid Bristol City £25million in 2023 and know that his potential, Premier League experience and England recognition make him an even more valuable asset.

However, there is a difference between wanting to keep a player and being able to justify turning down a big enough offer.

If Bournemouth continue their impressive run, their immediate need for Scott would become less important. With his contract situation also needing to be resolved, January would present one of the last chances the club has to cash in.

Chelsea should not expect to sign him cheaply, but they should certainly start feeling confident they can land one of their biggest targets.
