Things are not getting any better for Chelsea. After the loss at the weekend at the hands of Sunderland, the League Cup contest against Wolves should have been the perfect opportunity to bounce back. They are the worst team in the country right now and have not won a single Premier League game so far this season.
In the first 45 minutes, it looked like this was going to be a confidence-boosting win for Chelsea as well. They scored thrice to go into the break with a 3-0 lead.
But it all went south in the second half. They conceded thrice and saw a red card again as Liam Delap was sent off after coming as a substitute. The discipline issue needs to be sorted as soon as possible, that is for sure.
Marc Cucurella picked up a yellow card late on as well. And that means that he is suspended for Chelsea's quarter-final against Cardiff City.
Chelsea handed Marc Cucurella blow in Wolves game
Cucurella is an important part of this Chelsea team. So, not having him available for the quarter-final is a blow for sure. Many might feel that Cardiff City are a relatively easy opposition but considering how the Blues are playing at the moment, it feels like an upset might be around the corner if they are not careful.
The positive is that Jorrel Hato has looked better in recent weeks. So, one would imagine that he will be up to the task when it comes to filling in for Cucurella at left-back in the game against Cucurella. It is possible that that was always the plan.
This is a decent chance for Chelsea to win some silverware this season, even if winning the League Cup is not make or break. But if they want to do that, they will need to sort out a lot of problems in this team, starting from their defence to their immature decision-making.
