Chelsea were very close to signing Mohammed Kudus in the summer transfer window of 2023. Ultimately, they did not, failing to meet Ajax's transfer valuation of the player. Instead, it was West Ham United who came out on top while the Blues went on to sign a certain Cole Palmer. It is safe to say that it worked out quite well for them with the former Manchester City man becoming the face of the team.
Chelsea have never really forgotten about Kudus though. And with the Ghana international seemingly available this summer, it looks like they might try to sign him once again.
Kudus is now Premier League-proven. So, the transfer fee is going to be significantly higher than the one Chelsea would have had to pay a couple of years back. And Tottenham Hotspur are believed to have made him their top target. Yet, it looks like the Blues hold an advantage.
As reported by The Guardian, West Ham United expect that Chelsea will make a new offer for Kudus if Noni Madueke leaves. The Hammers do not want to transfer Kudus to Spurs but are prepared to deal with the Blues over the Ghana international.

Madueke might be headed to Arsenal. Personal terms are believed to be agreed already and that move, if it happens, might end up helping Chelsea bring in Kudus as his replacement.
Of course, they are different types of players, but right now, Kudus might be more impactful. From what we have seen over the past two seasons, he certainly seems to have a higher ceiling than Madueke but needs to be a lot more consistent. Moving to a club like Chelsea, were he will be surrounded by better teammates, might help him do that.
Let's see if Chelsea do end up making another offer for Kudus this summer. Do not be surprised if it does happen.
