Chelsea identify first possible Marc Cucurella replacement

Marc Cucurella could be one of the first big names to leave Chelsea this summer with the Blues reportedly open to letting him go for around £61 million.

Cucurella, who has been included in Spain's World Cup squad for this summer's tournament, looks set to leave Stamford Bridge with several clubs interested, including Manchester City ahead of Enzo Maresca's first season in charge.

There is also a chance the left-back moves back to Spain. Atletico Madrid are long-time fans of the 27-year-old with Diego Simeone believing he's the perfect fit for Los Colchoneros.

In response to the increasingly liklihood Cucurella has already played his game for Chelsea, the Blues are on the lookout for his replacement.

Chelsea shortlist potential Marc Cucurella replacement

According to a recent report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea have shortlisted Juventus left-back Andrea Cambiaso as a potential direct replacement for the outgoing Cucurella.

The Italian full-back has three years left on his contract in Turin and is attracting high profile interest in and around the Premier League.

Like Chelsea, Manchester City are also mentioned as a possible next destination for the 26-year-old.

Cambiaso has enjoyed a success campaign with the Old Lady. He was not only a mainstay in Igor Tudor's side before he took charge of Spurs, but also in Luciano Spalletti's after he was appointed.

The Genoa-born star missed just two Serie A matches all season, earning him the right to be considered one of Europe's most reliable defenders.

Juventus' failure to qualify for Champions League will play a big role

Juventus had a miserable season by their usually high standards. The 36-time Serie A champions not only failed to win the Italian title again last season, but also missed out on qualifying for the 2026-27 Champions League.

Although they did secure Europa League football — a competition they'll be expected to win — it has come at a huge cost, financially.

Consequently, even though the club don't want to lose Cambiaso — currently valued around £20 million — they may not have a choice if an offer too-good-to-turn-down is made.

While any club wanting to sign the 26-year-old will be expecting to cough up more than £20 million, from Chelsea's perspective, should a club buy Cucurella for over £60 million, they could certainly replace the Spaniard for a net profit.

During his three years in Turin, Cambiaso, who has won 19 senior international caps for Italy, has scored eight goals and registered 17 assists in 132 matches in all competitions. He was part of the Juventus side that lifted the 2023-24 Coppa Italia.
